The two Colmore lead schools have a long history of networking with either schools and engaging in various levels of school to school support. The founder headteachers of the CPTSA are designated National Leaders in Education (NLEs) and remain active Associate Directors of the Alliance.

As National Support Schools, staff from Colmore were deployed in teams led by the headteachers to support schools in an Ofsted category within Birmingham. The school led support system proved successful across the country and as one of the Big Six Elements of Teaching Schools, remains an important part of our CPTSA work.

The CPTSA support team has four National Leaders in Education (NLEs), eight Local Leaders in Education (LLEs) and twenty nine Specialist Leaders in Education (SLEs) as well as a wealth of expertise across the wider alliance members who can offer all kinds of school to school support. This can be at leadership, senior management, special educational need, subject expertise, classroom management, organisation and standards level as well as support staff of all kinds including teaching assistants and administrative support.

Since the reorganisation of the local authority the Birmingham Education Partnership (BEP) now has responsibility for the school improvement agenda across the city. Ten serving headteachers have been seconded on a part time basis as district leads whose responsibility is to know the data profile and needs of schools in their area. There is also a BEP commissioning group whose role is to broker support for schools in a Ofsted category or identified as particularly vulnerable.

  • Support for schools in the latter category in Birmingham will be commissioned through the BEP www.bep.education
  • Support for schools in other areas may be commissioned through their local authority
  • Schools or academies in any category may contact the CPTSA for support by emailing or by calling us on 0121 675 8766

Would your school benefit from a Health Check?

Whether you are preparing for an Ofsted visit or simply want an up-to -date external review of any kind, we can help. Following an initial discussion to decide your bespoke needs a small team made up from our bank of NLEs/LLEs/SLEs will visit your school for a day.

Within three days you will receive a written report with clearly identified strengths and areas for development. Members of the school team will be encouraged to join the review.
